What is MIMIC?
What is MIMIC?
This is Urban Saints new web-based, interactive discipleship programme for young people aged 8 to 18 years old, which aims to develop their character and skills, working alongside an adult mentor (their youth and children’s leader).
MIMIC is a generational discipleship programme for children and young people which will:
- Help them to understand how their relationship with God impacts and influences the whole of life.
- Empower them to participate in challenging opportunities which will develop their character, strengths and leadership skills;
- Encourage a healthy self-worth as they engage in positive actions to make their world a better place;
- Enable them to receive recognition and a sense of achievement for their endeavours;
- Envision and equip adults to mentor and coach them to develop their potential.
MIMIC is accessible to children and young people who have existing connections to a youth and children’s leader through an existing Energize group.
Please encourage your children and young people to register on the MIMIC site, as they will then have access to a wider range of MIMIC activities. Leaders should use the sign-up facility on the Energize website.
Once a leader has signed up to MIMIC, young people will then be able to select the leader as their “MIMIC Leader”. This is to encourage a mentoring relationship between the leader and the young person. Young people wishing to complete one of the Mentoring courses must be assigned to a MIMIC Leader.
In the section entitled “My Journey”, children and young people can meet with their leaders in mentoring or small group sessions, unpacking a number of character traits of Jesus which we’ve called ‘Trademarks’ e.g. generosity, integrity, humility. Each character trait will be explored with some teaching, a memory verse and then practically with the child choosing to perform one of a number of Challenges which will reinforce their learning. They can then capture their progress on their “Passport”, which is the on-line record of their achievements.
“My Rucksack” delivers a weekly video, on a monthly programme as follows:
Week 1 “Your Life as a Disciple”. A message which will give practical advice on Christian Living.
Week 2 “Just for the Guys” and “Just for the Girls”. Discussing gender-specific life issues.
Week 3 “God’s Big Story”. A journey through the Bible.
Week 4 “The Big Challenge”. A look at the wider world.
Each video is delivered in three age-group specific formats, so children and young people logging on to their own section of the site (7 – 10; 11 – 14 and 15+) will see a video which is geared to their own age group.
“Going Deeper“
When your children and young people are ready to want to follow Jesus and to be serious about their faith, “Going Deeper” is for them.
This gives access to Discipleship and Mentoring Programmes: Infusion; Influencers; Kinetic; Radish and Studentscape. There are also mentoring programmes for children.
Young people will also be able to find out about Urban Saints “Events and Holidays”, and “Opportunities to Serve” through the MIMIC site.
I do encourage you to sign up as a MIMIC Leader without delay. Encourage your children and young people to register on the site, and enjoy seeing what God will do through them as they work through all that MIMIC has to offer.
