What's The Story

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the world's longest-running and most controversial. At its heart, it is a conflict between two self-determination movements — the Jewish Zionist project and the Palestinian nationalist project — that lay claim to the same territory.

There is an extended article here that gives a fuller description of the history of the conflict.

What we do know, is that children have been caught up for decades, on both sides of this argument. The Bible is clear that we should give special attention to four people groups: orphans, widows, refugees and the poor. Whatever our view on the conflict, we must share God's heart for justice and make sure that we are doing all that we can to protect the most vulnerable around the world.

Here is a video that shows how children from Israel and Palestine have been impacted by the ongoing conflict.

Ask

We are well aware that this situation is complex and fraught with differing opinions, even among Christians. We have decided to focus our discussion around young people and children caught in the conflict and a Biblical response to their suffering.

  • What did you notice in the video?
  • What similarities did you see between the children?
  • What differences do you see?
  • Both the children had dreams for the future, what do you think they want most of all?
  • What can we do as Christians to help these children, and others like them?

If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

The Lord will guide you always: he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.

You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations: you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls. Restorer of Streets with dwellings.

Isaiah 58
