What’s the story?

In January 2018, the BBC were creating, rather than reporting, the headlines as pressure mounted around the corporation to address the much publicised gender pay gap.

On 31 January 2018, the eyes of those in government, together with the wider media gaze were scrutinizing affairs at the BBC when some of those most publicly affected, together with those in positions of authority, were called to give evidence to a pay inquiry.

The most prominent witness was Carrie Gracie, the BBC’s former China editor, who first hit the headlines...
