What’s the story?

On 8 June 2017, British voters will elect a new Parliament.

This is a surprise because elections normally occur in the UK every five years, and the next election was due to take place in May 2020.

However, the referendum on EU membership in June 2016 has plunged British politics into a period of uncertainty and a chain of extraordinary events have occurred since last year.
