Unpacking life's big issues
‘Who am I?’ is one of the most important questions we can ever ask. It’s the basis for which we make everyday decisions, it determines how we interact with others, and it reveals our purpose. To know that God created us and gave us our body, mind and soul gives us the freedom to live the life that He intends for us.
Young people will be exploring their identity with or without us, so we should be helping them uncover the truth about who they are in Christ. Many issues young people face are rooted in their sense of self – we should be engaging with these issues within the context of scripture, to reveal the young people’s God-given identities. When we put our faith in Jesus, we are transformed into new creations and there will be plenty of opportunity in this series for young people to start this amazing journey with Jesus.
Starting with creation, the series uses the story of Scripture to reveal our identity as people made by God:
We are created in God’s image (Session One), but we were deceived by Satan about this identity and started to look for it in other places (Session Two).
Jesus redeemed our identity to become accepted, secure and significant (Session Three).
Our identity goes beyond this earth – we were created for eternity (Session Four).
We experience situations and choices that can affect how we feel about ourselves but the truth about our God-given identity never changes (Sessions Five, Six and Seven).
